A Movement Forged in Fire
BasKaro is more than a platform; it is the result of a shared global struggle and a personal promise to turn the tide against anti-Indian hate.
Our Digital Genesis
Our story began not in a boardroom, but in a dedicated digital space created by proud diaspora-born Indians from the Philippines, South Africa, United States and the Netherlands. This online nexus became a hub for a global Indian community, with members from both the diaspora and mainland India. Despite our different locations, we connected over a shared, painful realization: the online world was a breeding ground for a venomous and systemic dehumanization of our people. This digital furnace revealed the scale of the problem and set the stage for a necessary response.
A Shared Realization
From Personal Experience to Global Mission
It was the exhausting, silent tax of being 'the other' in a system not built for you.
My story begins in Rotterdam, at the confluence of two great streams of the Indian diaspora: my Surinam-Hindustani mother, whose ancestors came from Uttar Pradesh, and my father, who hailed directly from Amritsar. This upbringing gave me a firsthand, lived understanding of the complexities of the diaspora identity.
My academic journey led to prestigious law firms and key governmental bodies. Yet, I always had a second, unspoken job: the emotional labor of navigating a minefield of disrespect. This wasn't overt racism, but a thousand daily micro-aggressions and a quiet professional ostracization that placed invisible walls around my career. It was the exhausting, silent tax of being 'the other' in a system not built for you.
This feeling led me to the digital corners of the internet, searching for others who felt the same. I discovered I wasn't alone; this was a shared struggle whispered in forums and community threads, which became the fertile ground for what would come next.
Being immersed in that online community, I was at the epicenter of this shared anguish. Seeing this same hostility amplified tenfold online, targeting a new generation, transformed my personal struggle into a public mission. The question became inescapable: If I don't do anything, who will?
